Heber Donn

According to myth, 'IR' one of the leaders of the great Milesian invasion of Ireland was drowned. After the conquest his son Heber Donn became ruler of an area that extended from South Longford to the far North. This sculpture depicts Heber Donn resting as he gazes out over his Kingdom.

The Limestone for this sculpture came from Holdensrath Quarrys in Kilkenny. The sculpture was craved by Jackie McKenna, Larry Leavy and Simon Carman from a design by Michael Casey. The stone seat was reset and fixed by John Grace. Funding for the sculpture came from Longford Community Resources Ltd. through the Rural Development Programme and a generous donation from Eban Hamilton of Barley Harbour.
